Next Kyu Test on Dec 10th, 2011

The next test date has been confirmed – Saturday, December 10th, 2011 – so mark your calendar!

We will be preparing all three classes for the kyu test in the next few weeks. It is best for students to attend class as often as possible and focus on their training. Only those who qualify will be invited to test as a chance to progress onto the next level.

Saturday Classes Canceled, Picnic Instead!

Hello everyone,

The Boys and Girls Club at the Polster Branch will be closed on Saturday and Sunday due to yesterday’s power outage and related fire alarm issues. There will be no classes during this time. The school district is working on the issue and will let us know when the building can be re-entered.  We will keep you updated on the latest development.

The good news is we have a visiting student from Kyoto, Japan. She is eager to meet everyone. Instead we will be hosting a picnic lunch. The weather will be slightly cooler – the perfect day for a dojo gathering.

Where: Powerhouse Park (next to Jake’s near 15th street Del Mar, green grass area above the beach)
When: noon-2pm
Who: students, families and friends are all invited
What to Bring: food to share (the dojo will supply utensils)

We will have our regular training schedule this Saturday.

Aiki-Kids class is canceled on Monday. The Aiki-youth class and adult class will be combined on Monday from 7pm – 8:30pm.

Note: Aiki-Core will resume in October.

Aikido of Del Mar will be hosting kyu test on Saturday, August 13th, 2011.

This week parents will be notified wheather or not their children are invited to test.

We have open mat hours every Monday and Wednesday from 7:10-7:30pm. Sensei and sempi will be present during this time to help. All students are welcome to make use of this time to ask questions and practice techniques. On Monday Justin from Aiki-Youth was able to run through all of his techniques during this time in preparation for his 3rd kyu test. We hope to see you there!

Robert Mustard Sensei Visiting LA

Robert Mustard Sensei Visiting LA dojo

Greetings All,

We were notified just this morning that Robert Mustard Sensei will be teaching a class at the Studio City dojo on Sunday from 6-8pm. Robert Sensei is one of the top instructors in North America. He lived in Japan for many years and trained under Gozo Shioda during that time. He was the Senior Foreign Instructor at Honbu dojo for several of those years that he was there.

If you are interested in attending this class, Edward and I will be driving up to L.A. and you can ride with us. We will be leaving the Boys and Girls Club at 3pm sharp, so get there by 2:55 at the latest. If you are coming it will help us out to know- respond to this email as soon as you know.

If you are under the age of 18, (and of course with a parent’s permission) Edward and I will be responsible for you if you wish to come and train.

This is a great opportunity to train with a very talented and enjoyable teacher.

July 4th Weekend Schedule

A couple of announcements:

-this Fourth of July weekend we will have regular classes on Saturday; however, on Monday (7/4) the Adult and Aiki-Youth class will train together beginning at 5:30 and ending at 7pm. If you are unable to train the whole time come and train for as long as you can!

-we will conduct kyu tests in August and will begin test training early in July to prepare for them.
