Next Kyu Test on April 7th, 2012

Aikido Del Mar’s next kyu test is scheduled on Saturday April 7th, 2012.

All students are encouraged to attend open mat time on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:10 – 7:30pm. Instructors will be present to answer questions and help with test preparation.

Note, Kenshu class will be held for the next three Saturdays (March 17th, March 24th, and March 31st) from 1:30 to 3:00pm. As a result, the adult class will end early to accommodate. The Aiki-Kids and Aiki-Youth classes are unchanged.

In order to help students become more comfortable with the ukemi portion of the test, we have prepared a few ukemi how-to videos. We recommend students to view the following instructional videos at home several times before coming to class to further practice. This will greatly enhance the learning process.

Happy training everyone!

Welcoming 2012!

Happy New Year Everyone!

It is that time of the year again where students of aikido can officially kick off another year of training by a tradition of reflecting on the past year and rededicating to the new year called Kagami Biraki (鏡開き).

Aikido Del Mar will host our Kagami Biraki celebration on Saturday January 21st, 2012 from 11am to 1pm. It is our tradition to have all students (Aiki-Kids, Aiki-Youth and Adult) meet on the mats together. Each student will demonstrate some aspect of aikido one’s working on. Note: parking on Saturdays will be busy from now on since the Boys and Girls Club hosts a junior basketball league, so please allow yourself plenty of time to find parking.

After the demonstration we will enjoy a potluck lunch together as a renewed aikido family. Family and friends are also invited to this special dojo celebration. The potluck signup sheet will be on the clip board during class so you can write down what you plan to share.

Here’s one of our most memorable dojo moments in 2011 – Joe’s Shodan Test Jiyu Waza (aikido freestyle). Enjoy!

Dojo Holiday Schedule

Hello everyone,

We will have regular classes on Mondays and Wednesdays for the next two weeks. No classes on Saturday, Dec 24th and Saturday, Dec 31st.
