Good day everyone,
Our new Aikido Del Mar t-shirts are here! If you haven’t had a chance to pick up yours please come and see us before or after class. They are $11 each and payable via cash or check. We will be using these t-shirts for several of our future aikido events in 2014.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. We have given candy canes to the kids and youth class and we hope the candies have found a nice spot on the trees or in your stomach. We are thrilled to train with such a wonderful group of people and we sincerely wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. This year we will be taking some time off from the mats between the holidays. We will be CLOSED from December 25th to January 1st. We will see you back on Saturday January 4th, 2014.
We just finished our December belt and kyu test for all three classes as of this week. We like to congratulate all those who have worked hard and advanced onto the next level. Some did not get to test this time but we are happy to see such focused training regardless of circumstances.
Last weekend Utada Shihan visited our friends in Encinitas Aikido and a few of us got a chance to attend the weekend seminar. We trained extensively with the bokken as well as open-handed techniques. We also attended a special Gakushu class on Sunday and learned about the four important areas in aikido – I) 道場とわ (dojo to wa); II) 心技体の稽古 (shin gi tai no kei ko); III) 二つの目付き (futatsu no me tsuke); IV) 伝統と継承 (dento to keishou). This is where we got to experience the combination of aikido philosophy and aikido practice. (See more about these aikido philosophies in the comment section.)
It has been a great pleasure sharing this journey with you all – thank you everyone for making 2013 a memorable year for all of us at Aikido of Del Mar.
